How do you give a truly captivating performance? How do you fill each moment on stage or screen with immediacy and truth?
The techniques of legendary acting teacher Sanford Meisner have rarely been available to actors in Scotland. Glasgow-based acting coach and director Mark Westbrook shares his experience of the latest developments in international acting techniques. Using Meisner, Practical Aesthetics and Viewpoints he will help actors connect to the script, the moment and each other.
Participants should wear sports clothes and trainers as the warm up is physically demanding.

about mark westbrook, our meisner tutor
After studying at the universities of Kent, Nottingham and Utrecht, Mark Westbrook trained as a director at the RSAMD, where he won the Avrom Greenbaum Prize for Direction. He later trained at the Atlantic Acting School in New York City.
Mark has directed professionally for the last ten years throughout the UK and Ireland. His production of Spoonface Steinberg at the Tron Theatre won an Arts Trust of Scotland Award. He is also a professional writer with a new play ‘The Emotional Life of Furniture’ opening at the Tron Theatre in Glasgow in October 2008.
In the past Mark's directing credits include: Broken Biscuits (Scottish Tour) Train Project (Coventry University), Necessary Targets (Foyle Arts Building), Caesar-'63 (Riverside Theatre), Tandem (Salisbury Playhouse), Spoonface Steinberg (Edinburgh Festival, Tron Theatre and Scottish Tour), The Dawn (The Arches), Misterman (The Arches), Matryoshka (The Arches), Rescuers Speaking (Scottish Tour) and Oleanna (Koepalzaal Theater, NL and Foyle Arts Centre).
After years as a university lecturer of Acting and playwrighting and spell as the Head of Acting at a conservatory for Musical Theatre, Mark has once again returned to private freelance coaching, whilst writing and directing professionally. Mark also runs a writing service called www.writingengine.co.uk and a website that collects together relevant information about the playwright and film maker David Mamet called www.mametnerd.com
In his time, Mark Westbrook has taught complete beginners, young people, business people, lawyers, conservatory and university students, professional actors and three of the National Theatre of Scotland's Emerging Artists.
